“Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Would it spark your curiosity to visit Beijing and explore it yourself? If so, come to China Cultural Center in Stockholm and immerse yourself in the magnificent scenery and profound cultural history of the Central Axis of Beijing.
“Night at the Beijing Central Axis” is an innovative AI+XR space experience, offering a brand-new, walkable VR immersive experience. Using VR equipment, you can freely stroll and explore the digital virtual world of the Central Axis at your own pace.
Starting from the Drum and Bell Towers at the northern end of Beijing’s Central Axis, visitors will embark on a mysterious journey through time guided by a mythical creature “Xiao Longzai (Little Dragon)”. The adventure takes you back over 750 years to the construction of Dadu, capital of the Yuan dynasty, where you witness Chancellor Liu Bingzhong designing the city based on principles of harmony between heaven and earth. In around 8 to 15 minutes, audiences can explore the origins of the Central Axis, uncover the wisdom behind its design, and appreciate the philosophical beauty of Chinese aesthetics and its profound cultural meanings.

At the same time, visitors can enjoy AI-generated images by Swedish photographic artist Uno Yang Guowei, who creatively restored old photographs of Beijing Central Axis taken by renowned Swedish sinologists Johan Gunnar Andersson and Osvald Sirén during their time in China. These two scholars made significant contributions to Chinese archaeology and introduced China’s urban architecture to the West. The combination of AI and VR exhibitions portrays a cross-temporal dialogue and reunion between China and Sweden, vividly narrating the enduring story of cultural exchange between the two nations.
