When Winter Solstice Meets St. Lucia’s Day – China-Sweden Youth Concert
Dongzhi (Winter Solstice) is one of the Chinese 24 solar terms and the date of Dongzhi varies according to the Chinese lunar calendar. St. Lucia Day, also known as the Feast of St. Lucia, marks the eve of Winter Solstice in Sweden and the other Nordic countries. Both Dongzhi (Winter Solstice) and St. Lucia Day mark the time with the shortest day and the longest night in the local region. On this day, everyone looks forward to the arrival of spring and sunshine. St. Lucia’s Day is an important festival in Sweden, while “Winter Solstice is as important as the Spring Festival” in China. On December 16, China Cultural Center in Stockholm and Lilla Akademien will jointly hold “Winter Solstice Meets Lucia – China-Sweden Youth Concert” in Queen Silvia Concert Hall. Enyoing the Chinese traditional ethnic and modern music, Swedish folk music, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Haydn, and Paganini, as well as all kinds of musical instruments such as piano, violin, cello, flute, guzheng, etc. In one concert, you are able to see the traditional Swedish Lucia tåg and celebration of Chinese Dongzhi (Winter Solstice).
