Chinese Little New Year’s Eve in Stockholm

On January 22, on the occasion of Xiaonian (China’s Little New Year), China Cultural Center in Stockholm hosted a unique celebration at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in the city center. The event featured a public session and a special session for Chinese students and scholars in Sweden.

The event was co-hosted by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center, and Chinese Students and Scholars Association in Sweden. It featured “Nihao! China” culture and tourism promotion, “Nihao! China” photo exhibition, themed temple fair, and performance.

“Nihao! China” tourism promotion was hosted by Swedish presenter Alexander Oldberg and focused on showcasing Beijing’s culture and tourism resources, as well as inbound travel tips. The event featured the screening of “Nihao! China” tourism promotion video, interactive Q&A session, and survey.

At the themed temple fair, booths featuring sugar paintings, kites, and dough figurines by intangible cultural heritage inheritors attracted numerous participants, creating a strong festive atmosphere. The themed performance showcased a vibrant lineup of acrobatics, Peking opera, dance, and martial arts, earning continuous applause from the audience. The highlight of the event came when the artists collaborated with Chinese students in Sweden for a joint performance.

Excited attendees expressed that they truly felt the rich festive atmosphere of the Chinese New Year in Sweden. The wonderful cultural activities further deepened their fascination with China and sparked their desire to explore the country. Nearly a thousand attendees in celebrating a vibrant, festive, and joyful Xiaonian (Little New Year).
